Was born on 11 November 1988 in Lviv.

Started to play chess in 1998. Became IM in 2004. FIDE awarded GM title to Yuri Vovk in 2008.

Yuri Vovk was a medalist of youth ukrainian championships a lot of times.

Ukrainian champion under- 20 in 2007.

Winner and medalist of following international tournaments:

• joint winner (1-3 place) on “Lake Sevan Martuni” (12 FIDE category, Martuni, Armenia, 2007)
• joint winner(1-2 place) on Vasylyshyn Memorial (10^th  FIDE category, Lviv, Ukraine, 2007)
• 1^st place on “Savaria GM” (9^th FIDE category, Szombathely, Hungary, 2008)
• joint winner (1-3 place) on “80^th Viktor Kart Jubilee” (8^th FIDE category, Lviv, Ukraine, 2009)
• 1^st place on prestigious open tournament “Cappelle-la-Grande open ” (610 participants, 106 GMs,76 IMs, Cappelle-la-Grande, France, 2009);
• joint winner (1-4 place) on “Le Touquet open”(Le Touquet, France, 2009)

Since 2000 Yuri studies in Vladimir Grabinsky group.

Brother of GM Andrey Vovk
